Seattle birth doula based out of Redmond, WA

“How will she remember this?”

– Penny Simkin

Delivering a baby is an empowering and life changing experience that you will remember forever. It is also an incredibly vulnerable one.

Having a doula by your side can bolster your confidence, increase your chances of following your birth plan and improve your level of satisfaction with your birth experience.

Additional benefits of trained labor support may include shorter labor, reduced use of pain medication, increased likelihood of vaginal birth and improved Apgar scores for baby.

Are you looking for a birth doula in Seattle or it’s suburbs? I would love to chat with you and see if we’re a good match!

What is a Doula?

Doulas are trained labor companions that provide continuous, non-medical, physical and emotional support and encouragment during labor and delivery. While a doula can’t speak for you, a doula can help you advocate for yourself and your desired birth plan. Unlike your partner, your medical provider, or the labor and delivery nurse, a doula is a unique complement to your birth team because she is the only person who can be focused solely on you and your needs and whose role is explicitly to help protect your memory of your child’s birth.

Laura Jawad Seattle Birth Doula

About me

I’m a certified birth doula and certified pre- and postnatal personal trainer with a special interest in core and pelvic health. I am here to help you advocate for your ideal birth, support you with physical comfort measures and emotional support during labor, advise your partner on best ways to support you and provide guidance during your early postpartum experience. I am invested in YOUR birth and early postpartum experience.

I have no agenda. I will support births at a hospital, home or birth center, with an epidural or none. It’s your birth, your choice.

A few fun facts about me? I have given birth to two babies and I have three children (I am also a stepmom!). Until I gave birth to my first child a few years ago, I was a research scientist. The experience of being pregnant, delivering my daughter, and navigating my postpartum recovery inspired new passions in childbirth support and education, pelvic health and pre/postnatal fitness. When I am not nerding out about childbirth and pelvic health, I love to spend time with my family, run and swing kettlebells, explore local coffee shops and read.

“Although the popularly desired outcome is ‘healthy mother, healthy baby,’ I think there is room in that equation for ‘happy, non-traumatized, empowered and elated mother and baby.”

– Ashley Booth Young

Laura was an amazing addition to our birth team! We’re so glad we hired her as our birth doula! Laura brought a sense of calm confidence that remained consistent for the 17 hours I was in labor. She gently checked in with both me and my partner to match our energy and specific needs without ever being pushy or overbearing. After delivery, my partner told me how much calmer he was able to be knowing he and Laura were working together and helping each other out to support me throughout the process. In addition to her physical presence at the birth, Laura offered a wealth of support and knowledge leading up to and following the birth. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to work with her again!
